Light + Building 2024

Raycap Presents Surge Protection for the Entire Building

Garching, 13. December 2023 – From March 3 to 8, 2024, the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building technology, Light + Building, will once again take place in Frankfurt. Raycap, an international manufacturer and technology leader with decades of experience in the development and production of innovative solutions for the protection of power supply, data and signal infrastructure, will be showcasing its broad portfolio of solutions for surge protection throughout buildings. In hall 12.0 at stand B64, trade fair visitors will see new components for the 60 mm busbar and the protection of AC charging stations and wallboxes, among other things. The company will also be presenting exciting protection concepts for various scenarios in a special Technology Corner.

Surge protection components for 60 mm busbar systems

For reliable surge protection for all types of power distribution systems, Raycap has developed the ProTec 60 series for the 60 mm busbar. The compact ProTec 60 is snapped onto the 60 mm busbar using plug & play, with only the PE or N conductor needing to be connected, thus significantly reducing installation time. Thanks to their compact design, the components significantly reduce the space required in the switch cabinet. They only require a width of 2 HP on the busbar and no additional installation space in the switch cabinet, such as an additional mounting rail or adapter. The 180-degree rotatability on the busbar enables shorter connection paths to the equipotential bonding or N/PE connections. This benefits the protection level and the electrical protection for the entire system.

The ProTec 60 T2F type 2 arrester with integrated back-up fuse offers major advantages, especially for higher currents, as no additional large NH back-up fuse is required. This not only saves additional installation space but also reduces installation work and costs.

The components in the ProTec 60 series are available as type 1+2 and type 2 arresters in various specifications. The components can be used flexibly with a wide range of busbar widths and thicknesses. All products are designed to be pluggable and the arresters can be easily replaced in the event of a trip without having to dismantle the entire product or cable or de-energize the entire system.

Surge protection solutions for the charging infrastructure

The expansion of the e-mobility charging infrastructure is progressing. Surge protection is mandatory for publicly accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in order to protect people and connected vehicles from damage in the event of a surge. However, surge protection is also necessary in the private sector, for example for wallboxes, in order to protect the investment and prevent damage to the vehicle and, in the worst case, injuries.

Raycap has developed the new ProBloc EV T2 V to protect even small, private AC charging stations or wallboxes that are not already adequately protected against surge damage via the house connection. Thanks to its compact design with a width of 35 mm, the type 2+3 surge protection component also fits into small charging stations, is particularly quick and easy to install, and reliably protects charging stations and connected electric cars from surge damage. The new component offers a short-circuit current resistance of 10 kA and enables V-wiring for in-line installation. Thanks to a visual status

display and an optional remote contact, users can monitor the status of their component at all times. Raycap will also be showcasing other products from its broad portfolio for protecting the charging infrastructure.

Technology Corner

The company puts a great deal of development effort into the development of these product highlights, as well as all other Raycap solutions, and utilizes its decades of expertise. Raycap is one of the leading companies in the development and research of new technologies for surge protection. This results in state-of-the-art technologies that flow directly into the company’s own products and thus into practical applications. At the stand, Raycap will provide insights into some of its technologies in the so-called Technology Corner and inform visitors about the advantages they offer in a wide range of applications. Raycap will also provide an outlook on upcoming innovations and an overview of proven technologies and concepts for flexible surge protection solutions throughout the building.
