Compact Surge Protection for Wall Boxes 

Garching, 03. March 2024 – With the expansion of the charging infrastructure for e-mobility in Germany, the need for solutions for safe charging is growing. Raycap, the international manufacturer of electronic components for surge protection, surge protection devices, connectivity, and monitoring solutions, is expanding its range of surge protection devices for e-car charging stations with the new ProBloc EV T2 V, a particularly compact component that fits easily into small charging stations and wall boxes. 

Surge protection is mandatory for publicly accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicles to protect people and connected vehicles from damage in the event of a surge. However, surge protection is also necessary in the private sector, for example, for wall boxes, to protect the investment and prevent damage to the electric vehicle and, in the worst case, injuries. However, as a single surge protection solution cannot cover a complete charging scenario, Raycap has developed a comprehensive product portfolio as an expert in protecting sensitive e-mobility infrastructure. This is now being expanded with the new, compact ProBloc EV T2 V.

Raycap has specially developed the new ProBloc EV T2 for the protection of small AC charging stations or wall boxes that are not already adequately protected against surge damage via the house connection, as is often the case in the private sector. With a width of 35 mm, the compact Type 2+3 surge protection device fits into small charging stations, is particularly quick and easy to install, and reliably protects charging stations and connected electric cars from surge damage. The primary features of this device include high surge current handling and a small, application-optimized footprint designed for easier integration by charger manufacturers and during field installation.

The products are designed for in-line installation – V connection, eliminating the need for a dedicated terminal block for the SPD. Thanks to a visual status display and an optional remote contact, users can always monitor the status of their protection. The ProBloc EV T2 V is particularly quick and easy to install, thanks to the space-saving Faston connection. Raycap offers an optional wiring kit that simplifies the installation process even further. Raycap’s many years of miniaturization expertise have gone into developing the ProBloc EV T2 V: reliable protection in the smallest of spaces. The solution is available immediately.
