Raycap at Smarter E Europe 2022

Raycap will present surge protection for charging stations, battery energy storage and PV systems at Smarter E Europe 2022

Garching, 05.04.2022 – From May 11th to 13th, the international solar industry will meet again in Munich for the world’s leading trade fair, Intersolar, as part of Smarter E Europe. Raycap, an international manufacturer of electronic components for surge protection, connectivity, and monitoring, will present the latest surge protection innovations for PV systems, battery energy storage, and e-car charging stations in hall A5 at booth 350.

The Raycap solutions have provided reliable protection against damage caused by lightning and surge events for years. At the Smarter E Europe, the company will present the latest components for the protection of battery energy storage systems and e-charging stations, in addition to its proven products for photovoltaic systems and inverters.

E-charging Stations and Wall Boxes

In the coming years, the charging infrastructure in Germany will be massively expanded. In addition to private wall boxes, public charging stations will also be increasingly needed. A single surge protection solution cannot cover a complete charging scenario. That’s why Raycap, an expert in e-mobility infrastructure protection, has developed a comprehensive product portfolio specifically for this area: whether in the AC or DC range, for small charging stations in the private and public sector, or for fast charging stations. In addition, Raycap will show other proven solutions for the protection of all charging infrastructure applications.

Surge Protection for Battery Energy Storage Systems

With the increasing expansion of renewable energies, the demand for battery energy storage systems (BESS) is also growing in both the private and industrial sectors. The inverters used in them are equipped with sensitive electronics; the high-capacity batteries with their low dielectric strength pose a serious explosion risk in case of arcing. Therefore, reliable electrical protection is imperative. Raycap will present its comprehensive portfolio for BESS protection at smarter E Europe.

Raycap’s Strikesorb 35 series uses patented technology to provide effective and safe operation in BESS systems up to 1500 VDC. A major advantage of Strikesorb 35 is that it can be installed without a dedicated back-up fuse, even with a projected fault current of up to 100 kA. This reduces space and costs during installation.

Raycap also will present its solutions for smaller BESS. The ProBloc B 1000 DC and SafeTec T2-1000 are direct DIN rail mountable surge protectors for DC applications.

Reliable Protection for PV Systems

To protect the PV system as an investment and to comply with legal requirements, surge protection is urgently needed. Raycap will showcase its complete portfolio of solutions for PV installation protection at smarter E Europe: from SPD base elements for direct mounting on the PCB to multipole, pluggable surge protection devices for the DIN rail and the patented Strikesorb technology. Raycap will also showcase its ready-to-connect ProTec PV boxes for PV installation protection. Raycap developed the compact pre-assembled junction boxes specifically for the quick surface-mount installation of DC protection next to the inverter. With an enclosed drilling template, the drill holes are quickly marked without opening the PV box. The strings can be installed without tools thanks to push-in connections and cable bushings or MC4 connectors. With housing in protection class IP 67, the PV boxes are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. A transparent cover makes the status display easy to read. The PV box is available as type 1+2 (ProTec T1 PV box) or type 2 (ProTec T2 PV box) with two DC voltages and for single and dual MPP tracker applications.
