Distributed Temperature Sensor (DTS) systems are used to measure the temperature along the power cable lines. They provide 24-hour, real-time monitoring and recording of the temperature profile of the cable.
DTS systems protect the power distribution infrastructure from damage due to overheat. Knowing the temperature profile of the cable enables the operator to dynamically modify the cable load, thus allowing maximum utilization of the cable infrastructure.
DTS systems have also been successfully utilized for fire detection in large industrial sites, tunnels etc.
